About the Project
Prem Deewani is originally a poetry written by the prominent bhakti-kaal poet and saint Meerabai. It was composed by me and my mentor. I recorded it during the peak of the Corona Pandemic in a makeshift studio in side my wardrobe on my phone. This simple recording later blossomed into a beautiful song produced by Yogamaya in collaboration with Bhakti Marga for their album 'Waves of Love Vol.1'. This album released in 2021 from Germany, and has tracks by amazing musicians from around the world like Sati Kazanova from Russia.
Fast forward to one year later, with a cast and crew made up of my college friends, humble equipment, and a non-existent budget we shot Prem Deewani's music video in 2 outdoor and 3 indoor locations across Pune within a 3 day schedule.
Collaborators:
Saran Earthedathu - DOP, Editor.
Jashan Sehmi - Producer, Art Director.
Music Video
The last frame of the film was the one that took most of our on-set and post production energy. It is a very interesting shot.
The Making
Fun Trivia:
This shoot schedule got postponed by several months due to issues with an actress' dates who ultimately couldn't make it to the shoot, and we had to recast.
We did the recces for this shoot in monsoon, by the time we were actually able to shoot, the water levels on our set became drastically underwhelming, due to which we had to do another recce on the day of the shoot and then relocate.
The portions where the protagonist is in a dark room with a white cloth fluttering in front of their face, were hilarious to shoot. We duct-taped a ring-light (along with a power-bank) to the ceiling fan, the master assistant manually had to move the fan (for speed reasons) using a curtain rod while standing on a metal cot. On the same metal cot, I stood with one end of the white cloth, and the art director laid on the floor with the other end of it to flutter it aggressively. We rolled for 4-5 minutes at length multiple times.
The shot where a piece of coal can be seen producing sparks of fire, is not manipulated digitally at all. No VFX have been used to show the sparks.
